Volunteer Opportunities are available at the Westchester Division, which specializes in Psychiatry, providing a range of diagnosis and treatment services for patients suffering from behavioral, emotional and other psychiatric ailments. In fact, the Westchester Division was rated the second-best psychiatric clinic in America by U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals 2002.
Inpatient units
Placements are available in the following disciplines: Child, Adolescent, Geriatrics, Substance Abuse, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorders, Women's Issues, Eating Disorders. Students/volunteers can work on one of our 11 inpatient units under the supervision of the nursing staff. You will assist the staff with the daily activities on the unit, which include, but are not limited to
These experiences are very beneficial to students interested in a career or further study in the mental health filed as well as nursing, medicine and social work.
Evaluation Center
Volunteers will assist staff and patients in hospital admitting process.
Pastoral Care
Volunteers will assist hospital chaplain in coordinating meeting of spiritual needs of patients, lead groups.
Pet Therapy
Please note, your dog must complete the formal pet training program before becoming a volunteer in this program. More information will be provided upon applying.
Resource Library Center
Volunteers to assist in helping patients, families, staff in finding specific requested materials within our own Health Information Library, via the internet, lending library materials, or assisting with bringing an information book cart to the inpatient units to assist patients with materials to aid their wellness.
Comfort Zone
Offers a variety of work adjustment/vocational training opportunities to help patients reintegrate into the work force. This program is a valuable treatment intervention and enhances community re-entry. This is a fantastic opportunity for an art therapist, occupational or recreational therapist, or someone looking to work with a broad range of diagnosis.
