What are your time commitments?
The minimum time commitment (with the exception of the Pet Therapy program) is 6 hours a week for a total of 120 hours of service (approximately 6 months of service). You must be able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis.

How old must I be?
The minimum age to volunteer is 16 years of age in non-clinical areas and 18 years of age for clinical areas.

What is the process?
Once your application is received, it is reviewed and assessed. If we have an opening for the program you are interested in, we will call you for an interview. After the initial interview between you and the Volunteer Department you will be referred to a direct supervisor from the program you are interested in, who will also interview you. If it is a mutual acceptable match, you will continue to a medical and background screening provided by the hospital at no cost. You will also complete an orientation program before starting in your area. Once these steps are completed, you are ready to begin.

How long does it take to be processed?
On average, it takes 4 weeks to be completely processed and ready to volunteer.

Is there a dress code?
Yes. Volunteers are not allowed to wear blue jeans, denim material, sweatpants, sweatshirts open toe shoes, t-shirts or shorts. This will be covered during orientation.

Will I be able to shadow a Doctor and or have a clinical experience?
No. We do not offer shadowing or clinical experiences through the volunteer office.

Do you have research positions available?
No. Research positions are not offered through NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Volunteer Services Department.

If I volunteer will I get a job at the hospital?
Volunteering at the hospital does not guarantee employment.

How long do you keep applications?
Applications are held for two months only. If you do not complete the process within three months your application will be discarded (unless otherwise approved by the volunteer department).
