What is the time commitment?
The minimum time commitment is 4 hours per week for a total of 150 hours of service - minimum 6 month commitment. You must be able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis. For summer volunteers the minimum commitment is 15 hours a week for a total of 120 hours of service - minimum 6 week commitment.

How old must I be?
The minimum age to volunteer directly with patients is 18 years of age. There are limited clerical opportunities for volunteers under the age of 18.

If I volunteer will I get a job at the hospital?
Volunteering at the hospital does not guarantee employment.

What is the Process?
Once your application is received it is reviewed. You will only be contacted if we wish to schedule an interview. If you have not heard from us in 6-8 weeks you may resubmit your application. After the interview, if accepted into the program, you must complete medical and security clearances and a 2 hour online orientation.

What is the deadline for Summer Only and Long-term Volunteer applications?
Summer only application are accepted January 1st-March 31st only. Long-term applications are accepted year-round.

Will I be able to shadow a Doctor and or have a clinical experience?
No. We do not offer shadowing or clinical experiences through the volunteer office.

Do you have research positions available?
No. Research positions are not offered through NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Volunteer Services Department.
