Weill Cornell Cancer Center

Diagnosis

Doctors usually order imaging tests such as a chest x-ray or computed tomography (CT) scanning when lung cancer is suspected. The diagnosis is confirmed with a biopsy of lung tissue to see if it contains cancer cells.

Doctors may order additional tests to determine the extent (stage) of cancer growth once a diagnosis of cancer has been made.

All of these diagnostic and staging services are available at the Weill Cornell Cancer Center.
