The pediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons at NewYork-Presbyterian Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health at Weill Cornell Medical Center are extensively trained in diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders related to the nervous system. Our child neurologists are pioneers in the use of high-resolution structural and functional brain imaging methods to diagnose patients and monitor their treatment, while our pediatric neurosurgeons take a minimally invasive approach to neurosurgery whenever possible.

We combine this leading technology with compassionate, personalized care, every step of the way. Our team of nurses, technicians, child life specialists, nutritionists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists are specifically trained in caring for children, with all of our physicians and surgeons board-certified in Neurology and Pediatrics. Many have additional certifications in Neurology with special qualifications in Child Neurology, Epilepsy, Clinical Neurophysiology, and/or Headache Medicine.

Programs

As a children's "hospital within a hospital," the Komansky Center is particularly well-equipped to help children manage chronic conditions and to help teens make the transition from childhood to adulthood. We treat the full range of neurologic conditions, with specialized expertise and programs such as:

Pediatric Comprehensive Epilepsy Center (PCEC)

Our team takes a holistic approach to every patient with epilepsy – assessing not only the biological basis of a child's seizures, but other factors in his or her life that may affect them. more

Pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (PEMU)

Located in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, this set of pediatric beds is dedicated for the monitoring of children with seizures or suspected seizures.

Comprehensive Neurofibromatosis Clinic

We are a multidisciplinary medical clinic providing care to individuals living with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) and Schwannomatosis, and are recognized nationally by the Children's Tumor Foundation as an affiliate clinic. more

Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery

Using the latest in endoscopic technology, our surgeons are pioneers in minimally invasive surgery, greatly reducing postoperative complications and enabling a faster recovery with less scarring. more

Traumatic Head Injury/Concussion

We coordinate multiple pediatric subspecialties and sophisticated technologies in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to manage children with head trauma. Our program is designated by the Adam Williams Initiative as a fully trained TBI (traumatic brain injury) facility. We also promote head safety via Lids For Kids, a program which encourages helmet use.

Pediatric Neuro-Oncology and Brain Tumor Programs

Offering comprehensive care and clinical trials for children with brain and spinal cord tumors (including participation in Children's Oncology Group studies), our Pediatric Brain Tumor Program is a multi-tiered research effort aimed at treating brain tumors in children that were considered elsewhere to be "untreatable."

Chronic Headache Clinic

Led by a pediatric neurologist who is also board-certified in Headache Medicine, our Chronic Headache Clinic diagnoses and treats chronic conditions in children and adolescents, including migraines.

Craniofacial Program

Using minimally invasive surgical techniques, we provide compassionate treatment and healing for children and young adults with conditions involving the face, skull, and jaw, including congenital disorders such as cleft lip, cleft palate, and craniosynostosis, as well as reconstructive surgical care for other diseases or traumatic injury. The Craniofacial Program is nationally accredited by the American Cleft Palate Association. more

Pediatric NeuroModulation and Spasticity Clinic

Our multidisciplinary team of specialists evaluates children with any movement disorder. The close collaboration of our pediatric neurologists and neurosurgeons with orthopedists, physiatrists, nurse practitioners, and physical and occupational therapists allows us to treat spasticity – an abnormality of extremity movement, or tightness, which impairs movement – with a wide range of interventions, including Baclofen pumps. We also commonly see children with cerebral palsy, dystonia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, tumors, and similar conditions. We offer individually tailored care to help children regain or improve function, and we provide education to their families. more
