Diagnosis

The following tests are used to diagnose head and neck cancers:

  • physical examination
  • endoscopy, such as a laryngoscopy to examine the larynx and nasopharyngoscopy to see the nasal cavity and back of the throat
  • imaging tests, such as x-rays, CT, MRI, or PET scanning
  • biopsy of tissue suspected to be cancerous

All of these tests are available at the Weill Cornell Cancer Center.
