Endocrine Surgery
Endocrine Surgery is a special field of surgery that focuses on the management of problems (principally benign and malignant tumors) of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, as well as endocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract and the pancreas. The Divisions of Endocrine Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital provide excellent patient care and advance knowledge of diseases of these glands through research and education.
At both NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the clinical focus of Endocrine Surgery is to employ minimally invasive techniques to provide superb care. Our surgeons have extensive experience with these techniques. To this end, thyroid and parathyroid surgery is performed under local or regional anesthesia using small incisions. Adrenal tumors are approached via laparoscopic techniques whenever possible.
The Thyroid Center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia evolved from a thyroid clinic established more than 60 years ago. The Center is staffed by leaders in the classification, treatment, and identification of thyroid disorders, who are active in researching causes and treatments, as well as developing prevention programs for thyroid and parathyroid diseases. In addition, specialists at the Pancreas Center at Columbia University treat endocrine disorders related to the pancreas.
The Division of Endocrine Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell offers extensive expert care in surgical treatment of adrenal gland disorders, hyperparathyroidism and other thyroid conditions, and endocrine tumors.
