Prenatal Care Assistance Program (PCAP)

PCAP is a state-funded program to promote healthy babies and healthy outcomes. Benefits provided to eligible women are prenatal care and access to specialties, hospital care during the pregnancy and delivery, social services, HIV counseling and testing, and assistance with accessing other programs such as Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and low or no cost health insurance. This program is available to uninsured women who do not qualify for Medicaid. Eligibility is determined at a personal interview; US Citizenship is not a requirement.

Moms also benefit from special events, such as a "Safety Shower" for first-time moms where they receive household and other safety information along with a car seat voucher.

PCAP outreach takes place at community events, such as health fairs, street festivals, and at community health centers. PCAP staff also does presentations at community health and prenatal workshops. In 2007, 3,640 women were enrolled in the PCAP program.
