At NewYork-Presbyterian we offer outpatient hand therapy for patients of all ages. Our highly experienced therapists hold specialized certifications in the rehabilitation of various problems of the upper extremity and hand. We have a core group of expert occupational and physical therapists who are certified by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission.
We offer specialized treatment for diagnoses ranging from traumatic hand disorders and cumulative trauma disorders to more chronic hand conditions. Some of the diagnoses we commonly treat are fractures, tendon injuries, nerve injuries, burns, tendonitis, repetitive strain, congenital deformities, and arthritis.
Our therapists are skilled in the evaluation of upper extremity range of motion, strength, swelling, pain, wounds, scars, sensation, function, and coordination. Treatments may include therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, functional training, splinting, casting, scar management, electrical and thermal modalities, and work hardening. We utilize state of the art equipment including the Biometrics E4000 Upper Limb Exerciser, the Valpar Series 4 and 9 and the Baltimore Therapeutic Equipment.
Hand therapy is available at both NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
