Promoting wellness during your stay and beyond

To enhance independent living skills and overall quality of life, our therapeutic recreational specialists provide treatment, education, and recreational opportunities to improve and maintain physical, cognitive, emotional, and social function. Some featured group therapy activities include games, chair yoga, chair fitness, meditation, and art group.

Our rehabilitation team is dedicated to promoting wellness beyond your stay. Depending on your injury, we are able to connect you to a community support group. These groups can assist with establishing new relationships and support systems while you assimilate back into your community post discharge. A recreational therapist will also provide you with information regarding accessibility options in the community.

Achieving Successful Home and Community Integration

simulated home environment with fridge, stove, cabinets

Our living area is designed to simulate home environment retraining and may be incorporated into your treatment plan by your care team. It is equipped with a working kitchen that is ideal for practicing meal preparation, reaching and stretching to get plates and cups from shelves, setting the table, putting groceries away, or placing a tray in the oven. The home environment also features a bedroom and bathroom to practice transfers and other activities you would navigate at home.

Whether it be in the actual outdoors or in our simulated outdoor environments, we want to enable patients to feel safe and successful navigating their community after discharge. This may include independent living in the hospital, navigating New York city streets, curbs, and sidewalks, it may also include practicing getting in and out of cabs and even riding the subway all while receiving guidance and instruction from trained therapists.
