Comprehensive Rehabilitation

Your inpatient acute rehabilitation program may include therapy from two or more of the following specialists:

  • Occupational therapists promote independence with activities of daily living.
  • Physical therapists help patients regain independence after an illness or injury. Physical therapists will create a structured program of movement to help patients walk, improve coordination and balance and regain strength and motion. The goal is to help a patient return to their baseline level of function.
  • Speech-language pathologists, are experts at managing conditions affecting swallowing, communication, and cognition that may result after an injury or surgery. Treatments focus on speech production, auditory comprehension, verbal expression, reading, writing, attention, problem-solving, and other related cognitive-communication issues.
  • Therapeutic recreational specialists provide treatment and education while offering recreational and other activity-based interventions to address the assessed needs of individuals to recover and maintain physical, cognitive, emotional, and social function, as a means to enhance independent living skills and overall quality of life.

In addition, our nurses are available around the clock to address our patients’ medical, physical, and comfort needs, while working towards helping each patient become more independent.

Transitioning Back to the Community

Our goal is to enable patients to return to their homes and resume their previous level of function. We work closely with patients and caregivers to improve their confidence and maximize their ability to safely complete activities of daily living, ambulation, and leisure activities. Your progress does not end when you leave our unit. To encourage continued improvement, home-based therapy and outpatient services, if appropriate, are available at one our many locations.
