We are delighted that you are interested in the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training Program of Columbia and Cornell Universities.
This is a great time to train in child psychiatry and we can think of no better place to do it than at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Our field has made significant advances in the developmental neurosciences, in the epidemiology, nosology, and effective treatments of childhood disorders and in research methodologies. The 1997 merger of the teaching hospitals of the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Weill Cornell Medical College created NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the top rated teaching hospital in New York City. Since this time, collaboration across academic campuses has advanced the clinical, research and educational goals of our institutions.
Our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry residency is the 5th training program to be fully integrated across the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia medical centers. We are fortunate to have two nationally recognized Departments of Psychiatry with two distinguished Divisions of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry that provide trainees access to a large, distinguished faculty and a remarkable array of on- and off-site training opportunities. The result is a residency with exceptional academic, clinical and research assets. Our goal is to develop excellent clinicians and to foster future leaders in research, education and administrative child psychiatry.
Living in New York City provides an extraordinary backdrop to this educational journey. Although the expense of life in the "Big Apple" may seem daunting, the hospital provides opportunities for subsidized housing for interested residents and fellows that is convenient and family friendly. Additional affordable housing is available specifically to psychiatry house staff at the Westchester Division.
