Payne Whitney Westchester and Payne Whitney Manhattan have a long history of groundbreaking work in the behavioral health field, and our contributions have helped shape treatment methodologies for a broad range of behavioral health disorders. The collegial atmosphere allows us to work as a team to provide compassionate care to our patients, and to interact with nurses throughout the hospital system.

We are fully equipped to handle any behavioral health issues, from crisis to continuing treatment and for every age, from children to the elderly. Nurses work in the following four specialty areas: clinical, administrative, health education and research. Payne Whitney Westchester is located on 214 acres in suburban Westchester County, New York. We have over 250 inpatient beds, numerous intermediate care programs, and extensive outpatient services. Our picturesque campus has been the home for psychiatric care, research and training since 1894, and is comprised of many historic buildings and houses, along with beautiful gardens and wooded areas. We also have an employee fitness center, golf course, and an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Payne Whitney Manhattan is located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. As part of a major academic medical center, the Upper East Side campus is conveniently located next to the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and other hospital buildings overlooking the East River of Manhattan.

Our Nursing Departments

Payne Whitney Westchester offers treatment programs in diverse areas of psychiatric care, with full-time, part-time, and flex-time positions available in the following behavioral health specialties:

Payne Whitney Manhattan provides numerous opportunities for psychiatric nurses to practice in cutting-edge and state-of-the-art clinical settings. There are two teaching inpatient units that offer full-time, part-time, and flex-time positions in the following behavioral health specialties:

  • General Adult Psychiatry
  • Gero-Adolescent Psychiatry

On both campuses, many patients have diagnoses that require continuing clinical skills in the medical arena.

Summer Employment Opportunity In Behavioral Health (Payne Whitney Westchester)

Psychiatric Nurse Extern
8-Hour Rotating Shifts
To qualify for our psychiatric nurse extern program:
  • Enrollment in a baccalaureate nursing program
  • GPA of at least 3.0
  • Successful completion of a fundamentals in nursing course
  • Successful completion of at least one basic medical/surgical rotation
  • Certification in BCLS, Health Provider Course
Interested Nursing Students should submit:
  • Cover letter and resume
  • Complete transcript
  • Clinical Reference form a clinical instructor
  • Copy of physical exam and immunizations
If you are hired, you will receive:
