School of Continuing Education Programs

Registration Information

The School of Continuing Education for Nurses is dedicated to providing both theoretically and clinically focused continuing education programs for nurses that will facilitate the ability to function in a variety of complex and specialized clinical setting.

As a NYSNA Council of Continuing Education-approved provider of continuing education, The School of Continuing Education for Nurses assures appropriate standards of continuing education as set by the ANA.

The School is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New York State Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

All programs will be held in the Department of Nursing Education located in the Payson House, 1319 York Avenue (N.W. corner of York Avenue and East 70th Street). Please click here for maps & directions.

Basic Critical Care Nursing
This 4-day course provides the professional nurse with a systems overview of basic critical care nursing. Find out more
Basic Dysrhythmia Course
This 2-day course provides the professional nurse with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish a systematic approach to the interpretation of sinus, atrial, junctional, and ventricular dysrhythmias, and A-V blocks. Find out more
Advanced Concepts of Hemodynamics and the Management of Shock States
This class provides the experienced critical care nurse, who has basic knowledge of hemodynamics, with a concise overview of the advanced principles and concepts involved in hemodynamic monitoring. Find out more
12-Lead EKG Interpretation
This class provides the experienced critical care nurse who has knowledge of basic EKG interpretation with a concise overview of the principles involved in 12-lead EKG interpretation. Find out more
Lab Values Interpretation
This 4-hour program is designed to provide the professional nurse with a concise overview of basic serum chemistries utilized in the diagnosis, assessment, and management of patient care. Find out more
Management of the Pedicatric Patient (PEDS Day)
This class provides an overview of basic pediatric care to registered nurses, which can be applied towards fulfillment of age specific education required by regulatory agencies. Find out more
Managing Difficult People
This 4-hour program addresses the issues associated with managing difficult and violent people. Find out more
Pediatric Neonatal Vascular Access
This 4-hour class covers the techniques and complications of venous cannulation and venous sampling in the pediatric and neonatal patient. Find out more
Adult Vascular Access
This 4-hour class covers the techniques and complications of venipuncture and venous cannulation in the adult patient. Find out more
Topics in Trauma Nursing 2008
This program provides current information regarding the resuscitative trauma care of patients presenting in the ED with HOT TOPIC injuries, including use of neuromuscular blocking agents, trauma induced shock states, extracranial and intracranial injuries, injuries to the face, eyes and neck, injuries of the vertebral column and spinal cord, burns, and gunshot wounds and ballistics. This program will provide current information about unusual/uncommon patients presenting to the ED, including Werneke's Encephalopathy, Wegener's Granulomatosis, Autonomic Dysreflexia, Rhabdomyolysis, Compartment Syndrome, Sickle Cell crisis, highly toxic ingestions/exposures and in-flight medical emergencies for the traveler.
