Nursing Credentialing Services (NCS)

Nursing Credentialing Services is responsible for the credentialing and privileging of Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) including Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Midwives and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. The Medical Staff By-Laws and Rules and Regulations govern the practice of Advanced Practice Nurses at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

NCS also tracks, monitors and ensures currency of license registration, BCLS, ACLS, PALS, EFM and NRP of nursing personnel in the Department of Nursing. A monthly credentialing report is distributed to the leadership team for review and action.

To function as a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse must meet the qualifications of and practice within the parameters of Section 6902 (3) (a) of the New York State Education Law. The application for appointment as an APN at NYP includes the following:

  1. Completion of the appointment application form and mandatory documents as outlined in the appointment checklist.
  2. Nurse Practitioners must register their practice protocols (Form 4NP) with NY State within 90 days of signing a collaborative practice agreement. Form 2B (verification of course completed for prescription privileges) must also be completed and submitted to the State. These two forms do not apply to Midwives and CRNAs.
  3. The application packet and the required documents need to be reviewed and approved by the Clinical Service Chief in the Department where s/he will be working. The NP's Delineation of Privileges (DOP) are those privileges granted by the Service Chief. Each NP's approved DOP can be viewed by logging into webview.
  4. Once approved by the Clinical Service Chief, the packet should be forwarded by the Department to the site Vice President, Nursing and Patient Care Services:
    • Suzanne Boyle, DNSc, RN - NYPH/Weill Cornell
    • Georgia Persky, MBA, RN, CNAA, BC - NYPH/Columbia University Medical Center
    • Linda Espinosa, MS, RN - NYPH/Westchester Division
    • Debra O'Hehir, MSN, MBA, RN - NYPH/The Allen Pavilion

  5. Approved packets are then forwarded to MariLou Prado-Inzerillo, MA, RN, Director, Nursing Operations and Credentialing Services for review and approval on behalf of the Chief Nursing Officer. Finally, the packet is submitted to the Medical Staff Office for Hospital appointment. The respective clinical department and nursing will be notified by NCS regarding the APN's official start date, which is when s/he can begin seeing patients.
