NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Holds Charity Auction of Global Electric Cars

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is holding an on-line silent auction of Global Electric Cars (GEMs). DaimlerChrysler generously donated 100 of the golf-cart-like cars to be auctioned off. The auction, which can be found at http://www.nyp.org/gem, began in July, and as of this date, there are nearly 200 active bidders for the 100 available cars. The auction will close on September 1 at 5:00pm. Heavy on-line bidding activity is expected during the Labor Day holiday weekend. All proceeds from the auction will be used to enhance emergency services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
The cars, which are valued between $6,995 and $8,995, are made of a strong yet lightweight construction, have front-wheel drive, four-wheel hydraulic brakes, and can travel speeds up to 25 mph. The environmentally friendly GEMs are battery-powered vehicles, which can recharge overnight from standard household outlets. The GEM cars can be viewed on-line at https://e-net.nyp.org/gem/.
The 100 highest bidders will win a GEM car. Bidders will receive their choice of a 2- or 4-seater and color selection based upon available inventory. Selection will be made in monetary order of bid.
