May 4, 2010
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the Official Hospital of the New York Yankees, is launching the National Nurses Week celebration locally with a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) on one of the largest HD screens in the sports world. The PSA are being shown at Yankee Stadium during three home games against the Baltimore Orioles on May 3, 4 and 5. National Nurses Week is traditionally celebrated annually during the first week in May.
"The city's nurses are our own local heroes — a championship team in their own right — and we wanted to show our heartfelt appreciation for their skills, hard work, dedication, caring and compassion," says Dr. Herbert Pardes, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "It's our way of saying ‘thank you' to all the nurses in the greater New York area by letting them know they have fans not only in the stadium, but all over the city."
"Nurses touch people's lives in powerful ways and do an incredible job under all types of situations. They are an integral part of the health care team, and this is a great opportunity to publicly recognize all nurses in a big way," adds Wilhelmina Manzano, senior vice president and chief nursing officer for NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
The PSA is being aired on the centerfield HD screen during pre-game activities for the May 3-5 games against Baltimore, allowing fans to give a rousing cheer to celebrate "nursing's finest."
