NEW YORK

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is one of the country's top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals, according to Computerworld magazine's annual survey. It ranks among the top three organizations in New York City, and is the City's only hospital named. The June 30 special issue also lists NewYork-Presbyterian as one of the top two IT workplaces for diversity, and first in the category for the Mid-Atlantic region.

The Hospital ranks in the top two IT workplaces nationally and first in the Mid-Atlantic for percentage of non-managerial minority IT staff (62 percent) and overall minority representation in IT (57 percent), and in the top two in the Mid-Atlantic for percentage of minority managers (33 percent). The magazine also cites the benefits of the Hospital's new employee concierge service provided by Errand Solutions, which helps with tasks like dry cleaning, gift purchasing and other errands.

"Information technology is increasingly important to the delivery of health care in a hospital setting. For this reason, we value our technology team and everything they do to keep us connected with the information and the tools to provide high quality care to our patients," says Dr. Herbert Pardes, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "I am especially pleased to be recognized for our commitment to diversity in the workplace — something that reflects the diverse backgrounds of our patients and helps makes our Hospital such a stimulating and rewarding place to work."

Dr. Pardes is chairman emeritus of the eHealth Initiative and serves on the board of the Markle Foundation, organizations dedicated to improving quality, safety and efficiency of health care with information technologies.

"We are committed to recruiting and retaining the very best technology professionals as we continue to build on and improve our information systems," adds Aurelia Boyer, senior vice president and chief information officer at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Last year, the Hospital announced that it was working with Microsoft to develop and implement the company's HealthVault medical record technology.

Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, the magazine conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.

The complete rankings are in the June 30 edition of Computerworld and on the magazine's Web site at www.computerworld.com.
