NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center have been designated as Centers of Excellence for both pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer care by the National Pancreas Foundation (NPF). The designation recognizes centers who provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to patients undergoing treatment for pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, respectively. NewYork-Presbyterian is the only health system in New York to receive both designations at more than one location.

In order to receive a Center of Excellence designation for either pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer, sites must meet rigorous criteria developed by a team of outside experts and patient advocates. Sites also must undergo a number of audits, raise awareness and understanding of the pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis, and support research that advances the standard of care for patients with these diseases. Centers of Excellence must also have expert physicians across a range of specialties including oncology, gastroenterology, surgery, and interventional radiology, along with more patient-focused programs such as a pain management service, psychosocial support and others.
