Safety 1st and The National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) Launch Get on Board with Child Safety Campaign in Partnership with Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian

NEW YORK

Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in young children. Get on Board with Child Safety is working with parents, caregivers, and consumers to make changes in the home and on the road to prevent these injuries. "Prevention of injuries in children is one of the most critical missions for a children's hospital," says Cynthia Sparer, Executive Director of Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian. "Our collaboration with both the private sector and national advocacy groups will serve as a national model for raising awareness about injury prevention."

The Get on Board with Child Safety campaign launched officially at a Cab Health Fair on April 2, 2005 at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. In an effort to reduce injuries to children in taxi-related crashes in New York City, more than 300 booster car seats were issued to cab drivers in the Washington Heights, Inwood and Harlem neighborhoods. The seats were donated by Dorel Juvenile Group USA, manufacturers and marketers of Safety 1st branded juvenile products. Dorel Juvenile Group USA is an operating subsidiary of Dorel Industries Inc. (TSX: DII.SV, DII.MV; NASDAQ: DIIB). These booster seats were distributed to the drivers along with information and demonstrations on proper use and installation.

"We know that proper use of child passenger seats saves children's lives. Yet only a small percentage of parents use booster seats regularly for their children aged 4 to 7 years. By placing boosters in cabs, we will help protect the children riding in the cabs and also raise overall awareness in the community," says Patricia Hametz, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Attending Pediatrician at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian.

"Safety 1st is proud to be a part of this nationwide effort to raise awareness about unintentional injuries. As a leading manufacturer of car seat and childproofing products, we are committed to educating parents about the issues that affect their child's well-being and this campaign will do just that," says Bruce Cazenave, President & CEO of Dorel Juvenile Group USA.

"Children's hospitals see too many children suffer from unintentional injuries. Our member hospitals are dedicated not only to providing the highest quality health care to all children – but engaging in preventative efforts to stop them from needing our care to begin with. The preventative efforts put forth by the Get on Board with Child Safety campaign are ones that every parent can employ. We are a proud partner in this initiative and look forward to seeing a decrease in the number of unintentional childhood injuries that our hospitals treat," says Lawrence McAndrews, President and CEO of NACHRI.

About the Program

Over the course of 2005, a variety of outreach programs and special events will take place at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian and the other partnering hospitals in Indiana and Florida. Get on Board with Child Safety will sponsor several ongoing educational events such as the Home Safety Make-Over in which parents and caregivers will learn how to protect their child from unintentional injuries in and around their own home. Experienced childproofers will work closely with local families in participating cities to help them eliminate common household hazards.

In a similar effort, Dorel Juvenile Group USA's Safety 1st brand is donating 30,000 Secure Solutions Childproofing Kits to be distributed in target communities. The Secure Solutions Childproofing Kit provides parents with some basic childproofing essentials as well as the comprehensive Essential Home & Travel Childproofing Guide. The kit is intended to encourage families to take responsibility for their child's well-being and take steps toward injury prevention.

At Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, nursing staff trained to educate mothers and caregivers of children from birth through five years of age, will distribute these safety kits at the community-based Ambulatory Care Network sites of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. In addition, kits will be distributed through community agencies and outreach programs. Altogether, 10,000 kits will be distributed to our patients and the local community.

In addition to Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital's involvement, additional booster car seats, donated by Dorel Juvenile Group USA, will be distributed in partnership with Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

To help spread the philosophy that injury prevention is a way of life and not just a onetime effort, the Get on Board with Child Safety campaign will provide parents with an online, up-to-date resource that they can turn to on a regular basis. Beginning on April 1st, 2005, families can visit www.getonboardwithsafety.com and sign up for a free Essential Home & Travel Childproofing Guide and access quarterly child safety newsletters.
