Please tell me about your practicum program.
Our 100-hour practicum takes place over 13 weeks. Because it is a shadowing experience, the goal is to enhance our student's observation and assessment skills before they enter into an internship. The student can expect to be at our hospital once a week for a full 8-hour shift, under the supervision of a member of our child life department or a member of the healthcare team. Students are expected to come prepared with goals and questions each day of their practicum and will be expected to process their experiences during the day with their clinical supervisors, as well as meet with a student program coordinator to discuss their weekly journals and verbatim.

During what semesters is your program offered?
Practicum: Offered during the Fall (September-December), Spring (January-April), and Summer (May-August) Semesters.

Internship: 600 hours
When and how will I find out if I am accepted for an interview?

When and how will I find out if I am accepted to your program?
Our education committee will contact all applicants by either e-mail or telephone on the Initial Offer Dates to offer or decline admission to our program.

What is the process after I have submitted my application?
Our education committee reviews all applications and follows a strict and comprehensive application rating system to ensure all applications are given equal opportunity. After the applications are reviewed, students are contacted by either telephone or e-mail to offer or decline an invitation to interview. After the interview process, the team discusses the applicants again and decides who will be offered placement in our student program for the term. Applicants are then contacted following the Child Life Council-recommended deadlines as to whether they are accepted or declined an invitation to our program.
