Helping Children and Adolescents with HIV

Young people at risk for or living with HIV face special medical and emotional challenges. The specialized care teams at NewYork-Presbyterian's two centers for Pediatric HIV — Project STAY (Services to Assist Youth) and the Center for Special Studies in Pediatric HIV Disease — understand these challenges.

At our Center for Special Studies in Pediatric HIV Disease, we care for 10 percent of New York City's pediatric/adolescent HIV/AIDS population. Our multidisciplinary team oversees each patient's care, offering:

  • General pediatric and well-child care
  • HIV counseling and testing for children and their families
  • Psychiatric and developmental services and referrals
  • Inpatient pediatric services
  • Palliative care and referrals
  • Health education
  • Caregiver support groups
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Pediatric nutrition
  • Dental services

Through Project STAY (Services to Assist Youth), we provide comprehensive services to high-risk and HIV-infected adolescents and young adults. Our family of healthcare professionals has specialized training in adolescent care and a passion for delivering cultural- and age-appropriate services to young people. We provide:

  • Sensitive and supportive HIV counseling and testing to high-risk youth
  • Comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and case management services to young people living with HIV
  • Strategies to address patients' health-compromising behaviors
  • Global research and training efforts on HIV/AIDS and vaccines.
