Ophthalmology

Ophthalmologists are MD-trained doctors who care for the eyes. They address patients' vision as well as disorders such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy and other diabetes-related eye problems, crossed eyes, corneal abrasion, retinal detachment, dry or watery eyes, ocular migraines, and many other eye problems.

The ophthalmologists of NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of eye disorders.  NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital is one of only two hospitals in the area to offer a procedure that uses a new laser technology to treat cataracts more effectively. Called "femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery," the ophthalmologic surgeon uses a high-tech laser to soften the cataract, break it into small pieces, and remove it—without having to cut into the cornea. Compared with traditional cataract surgery, the laser procedure offers greater precision for the doctor and quicker healing, less trauma, and less downtime for the patient.
