Hysteroscopy
The utilization of this diagnostic and therapeutic procedure
has had a dramatic effect of women's health care by reducing
the need for many hysterectomies. Diagnostic hysteroscopy
provides a clear, direct view of the uterine cavity and provides
a wealth of information that enables the gynecologist to provide
patients with a choice of therapy options. By using therapeutic,
or operative, hysteroscopic procedures for abnormal bleeding,
the need for hysterectomy or a traditional 'open' procedure
can be eliminated for many women. A tiny telescope is placed
in the uterus painlessly through the cervical canal, which
allows the physician to view the entire inside of the uterus.
It can be performed as either an office or outpatient procedure.
