Laparoscopy is frequently used to diagnose and manage conditions
of the reproductive organs, including endometriosis, ovarian
cysts, fibroids, adhesions, uterine diseases and urinary incontinence,
as well as to check for ectopic pregnancy, causes of pelvic
pain, and tumors. This technique is used to remove polyps
and fibroids, perform selective endometrial biopsies and address
scarring in the endometrial cavity. Problems of the uterus
can be treated through laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy,
which enables the surgeon to view the pelvic organs while
removing the uterus. Tubal sterilization also can be performed
laparoscopically.
The Center for Women's Minimal Access Surgery is dedicated
to providing women with advanced surgical techniques, both
for diagnostic and treatment purposes, that minimize not only
the "surgery," but also the impact on day-to-day
life, as well as pain, cost and recovery time.
The surgeons at the Center for Women's Minimal Access Surgery
are acknowledged world leaders in the field of minimal access
surgery. Many of the procedures utilized at the Center were
actually pioneered by its gynecologists. Their ongoing efforts
to provide the most advanced minimal access surgical procedures
reflect their dedication to the delivery of optimum gynecologic
care and their continuing leadership in the innovation and
refinement of less invasive surgical techniques.
