Diagnostic Laparoscopy
This is a surgical procedure for the purpose of making a diagnosis. In some situations when a diagnosis is in doubt, a laparoscopy can provide the needed information to make a diagnosis. This may involve taking a biopsy of the liver or a biopsy of some lymph nodes in front of the back. Or it may involve using an ultrasound probe guided by the laparoscopic view. The use of diagnostic laparoscopy requires three small incisions and results in a return to normal activities within a week.
