Pediatric Comprehensive Epilepsy Center

Holistic Approach to Care

At the Pediatric Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at the NewYork-Presbyterian Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children’s Health, our team takes a holistic approach to every patient with epilepsy in a compassionate and comfortable setting ─ assessing not only the biological basis of the child's seizures, but other factors in his or her life that may affect them. The strengths of our program include:

  • Exceptional patient care by a coordinated team of specialists
  • Thorough assessment to identify the origins of seizures in each patient
  • Comprehensive evaluation before surgery
  • Use of alternative therapies where appropriate
  • Continuity of care throughout the patient's lifespan, with transitional care provided from the teen years to adulthood
  • Clinical research to evaluate new medications and devices and to explore the genetics of epilepsy

The needs of a child with epilepsy affect the entire family. We work closely with families to address the needs of each child and assess how those needs influence the family dynamic. For school-age children who require longer-term care, we have staff available to help the child keep up with his or her educational development.
