We incorporate the latest technologies in your child's heart care, starting with nonsurgical approaches and using surgery only when other methods are not known to be effective.
We offer comprehensive services for children and adolescents at risk of heart disease due to high cholesterol/triglycerides and/or high blood pressure.
We provide expert diagnostic services for children with congenital heart disease and other medical problems that may affect the heart, using noninvasive testing whenever appropriate. Examples of the tests we offer include:
The NewYork-Presbyterian Congenital Heart Center is one of just a few U.S. centers to offer pediatric hybrid heart surgery - procedures that combine conventional surgical methods with minimally invasive, catheter-based interventional approaches. These less invasive alternatives use a smaller incision through the breast bone or right chest, with the advantage of less pain, no need for a heart-lung machine, a faster return to normal activities, and cosmetic benefits. We use hybrid heart surgery to treat some patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and ventricular septal defects and to replace some damaged heart valves.
Our pediatric heart surgeons perform every type of surgery to treat heart disorders in young patients, from infants just days old to older children and young adults. We are especially known for our expertise performing these surgeries:
Our heart surgeons are evaluating the use of three-dimensional printing to create models of young hearts with defects, enabling surgeons to plan a procedure in advance by gaining a greater understanding of a child's heart anatomy before stepping foot into the operating room.
Our pediatric cardiologists and pediatric heart surgeons are conducting laboratory and clinical research to advance the care of children with heart disorders. Your child may have the opportunity to participate in a clinical trial.
