Treatments and Procedures

Our Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization Procedures

We perform the following cardiac catheterization procedures in children:

  • Angioplasty, including dilation and/or stent implantation, to open narrowed arteries and veins
  • Atrial septoplasty or blade septostomy to treat pulmonary hypertension
  • Balloon atrial septostomy to improve mixing of oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood to ensure that the body's oxygen levels remain in a safe range
  • Balloon dilation and/or stent implantation for treatment of coarctation of the aorta
  • Balloon valvuloplasty of the aortic valve and pulmonary valve
  • Closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects, patent foramen ovale (PFO), and Fontan fenestrations
  • Closure of unwanted vessels (patent ductus arteriosus or collaterals) with coils or other types of closure devices and/or plugs
  • Percutaneous pulmonary valve replacement
  • Pulmonary artery dilation and stent implantation to treat pulmonary artery stenosis (narrowing)
