Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a birth defect in which the adrenal glands do not function properly. There is an enzyme deficiency that prevents the adrenal glands from making cortisol (a hormone which affects your body's energy supply, blood sugar, and reaction to stress).
The children's hospitals of NewYork-Presbyterian are designated New York State Newborn Screening Referral Centers for CAH. Our Comprehensive Center for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia at NewYork-Presbyterian/Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health is the nation's first Center of Excellence designated by the CARES Foundation (Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Research Education and Support).
Why should you bring your child to us for care?
