Welcome to the NewYork-Presbyterian Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Training Program.

We are committed to delivering the highest-level clinical education and have created an environment where trainees thrive in their journey to become well-rounded physiatrists. Our training program features a comprehensive clinical curriculum that dives deep into all areas of physical medicine and rehabilitation. NewYork-Presbyterian is the home hospital for our trainees and is built on a bedrock of two top-tier academic medical schools in Manhattan; Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill Cornell Medicine. Our residents have structured experiences at nationally recognized local institutions such as Blythedale Children’s Hospital, Helen Hayes Hospital, Hospital for Special Surgery, James J. Peters VA Hospital, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Each of these sites brings diversity of patient population and clinical expertise that when knitted together become the fabric of our robust training program. A high level of academic rigor and a focus on clinical and career mentorship provide excellent preparation for our trainees to become accomplished clinicians and ultimately leaders in the specialty. Our residents graduate as experts in maximizing functional independence and caring for patients with disability.

Our nationally recognized faculty are composed of highly trained educators and researchers, who provide our residents with exposure to cutting edge techniques in an environment of open inquiry. We select faculty who have the essential subspecialty expertise to guide our trainees in their ultimate career pursuit. This allows us to graduate physiatrists prepared to pursue the career or specialty fellowship of their choice.

Our program shares our institutional goal of taking an active role in anti-racism and increasing diversity and inclusion. Specific efforts include focusing on recruiting residents and faculty members from historically under-represented minority groups, women, individuals who identify as LGBTQ, and individuals with disabilities. Our goal is to have the field of PM&R reflect the diverse populations we serve. We are also taking steps to improve access and equity for the patients we serve across our sites of care, with specific focus on those who have historically lacked proper access to the highest quality of care.

Please take a few moments to use the links on this site to meet our residents and staff. We hope you will find what we already know — that we have a professional and collegial group of trainees and faculty who support each other to become outstanding physiatrists.
