Reconstructive Facial Surgery

Reconstructive plastic surgery is performed to restore form and function to the face and neck, and is not done solely for cosmetic reasons. Our surgeons work closely with patients to describe available procedures, the risks and benefits, and what patients can expect with regard to recovery.

NewYork-Presbyterian head and neck plastic surgeons perform the full range of reconstructive head and neck procedures, including:

  • Functional rhinoplasty (a "nose job" to correct breathing)
  • Treatment of facial trauma, such as cuts of the skin and fractures of the facial bones
  • Revision of unfavorable scars
  • Reconstruction after removal of skin cancers (including Mohs surgery) or other skin lesions
  • Removal of benign skin lesions
  • Facial nerve rehabilitation, including patients with Bell's palsy
  • Microtia repair
  • Treatment of congenital deformities such as cleft lip, cleft palate, congenital cysts of the neck, and microtia (a missing or abnormal external ear)

Patients who require additional rehabilitation after reconstructive surgery, such as speech therapy, can also receive this care as part of their treatment plan.
