Research

NewYork-Presbyterian's head and neck reconstructive plastic surgeons are conducting research related to nerve regeneration. In addition to ongoing clinical research exploring novel techniques for static and dynamic nerve regeneration, we have partnered with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University. We are actively investigating various growth factors and novel polymer interfaces to enhance tissue repair and wound healing. In addition, we are seeking to develop a novel system to regenerate cartilage.

With the help of our research scientists, we are exploring techniques to successfully grow living chondrocytes in the hopes of one day eliminating the need for surgically harvested donor site tissue. This will serve to strengthen our reconstructive capabilities and allow for even more comprehensive facial restoration following disfiguring congenital, oncologic, or traumatic defects.

Our participation in cutting-edge research demonstrates our commitment to being leaders in our field and helps advance care for patients everywhere.
