Cardiovascular Health Education Center

The Cardiovascular Health Education Center (CHEC) at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital is a resource center for patients, families and health care professionals. Dedicated to promoting cardiovascular health through the coordination of interdisciplinary programs and resources. CHEC provides access to classes, educational materials, counseling, professional development and innovative research.

The goal of CHEC is to provide easier access to information regarding heart programs and education at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Our goals are to:

  • Coordinate services with other NYPH programs
  • Create and provide up to date and accurate written materials
  • Provide patient, family and community education classes and seminars
  • Provide unit specific education to our staff

CHEC Services

Educational Materials
  • The majority of our materials are located in the main CHEC Center on the 2nd Floor of the Milstein building in the Flanzer Cardiac Center.
  • Smaller CHEC Satellite Centers are located on the 5th floor of the Milstein Building on the nursing units: 5 Hudson North, 5 Garden North , 5 Garden South and ICU Waiting Room
  • On-Line requests for information

Cardiac Classes

Classes are offered Monday - Saturday in the Milstein Building (2nd Floor Flanzer Cardiac Center, 5 Hudson North, 5 Garden North , 5 Garden South) See the class schedule for more information. Classes include the following topics:

  • Discharge After an Interventional Procedure
  • Care After Open Heart Surgery
  • Heartwise Nutrition
  • Physical Activity
  • Cardiac Stretch and Yoga
  • Stress and Relaxation
  • Caregivers Class
Program Referrals

Program Referrals are available by completing an on-line request form. Programs include diet/nutrition, smoking cessation, outpatient cardiac rehab, etc.
