NYP/Weill Cornell Receives Pancreatic Cancer Center Designation from National Pancreas Foundation

NATIONAL PANCREAS FOUNDATION CENTERThe Pancreas Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center was named a National Pancreas Foundation Center for the treatment and care of patients with pancreatic cancer by the National Pancreas Foundation.

The National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) gives this designation to medical centers that provide consistent patient-centered multidisciplinary care with an emphasis on quality of life.  Only 28 centers nationwide received the designation in 2016, including the Pancreas Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Centers must undergo an intensive audit covering a range of criteria to qualify for an NPF designation. These criteria including clinical trials, pain management services, psychosocial support, electronic medical records, nutrition support, and having a range of specialists, including gastroenterologists, pancreas surgeons, interventional radiologists, and others.

The Pancreas Program at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical center is a member program of the Center for Advanced Digestive Care (CADC). The CADC supports the program in multiple ways, including research support, coordination of multidisciplinary case conferences, and complimentary nutrition, social work, and genetic counseling services for patients.

The National Pancreas Foundation is a nonprofit organization that funds research and advocates for new and improved therapies for pancreas disease.  The organization also provides support and education for those fighting pancreatic disease, their caregivers and healthcare professionals.
