Language Ambassador Program

Demonstrate that compassion is the same in any language.

Imagine being in the hospital when you are sick, scared, and confused. Now imagine how much more difficult it could be if you don't speak the staff's language. Volunteers in the Language Ambassador Program provide support and comfort to patients by offering interpretation in Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian and Spanish. As a Language Ambassador Program volunteer, you will facilitate communication between patients, staff, and caregivers as needed. You will help promote cultural competency by addressing differences in order to eliminate misunderstandings. Volunteers problem solve and use compassion to support patients and their families by addressing concerns and questions throughout their stay. If you have experience in medical interpretation you may also assist in explaining terms and illnesses as requested by staff.

We would love to hear from you if you are: able to read, write and speak Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian or Spanish, familiar with medical terminology in any of those languages, a strong communicator, compassionate, proactive, understand the importance of culturally competent care
