Pediatric ICU

NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a progressive, child-friendly unit built for children with potentially life-threatening illnesses. The unit has modern equipment for treating children and monitoring their progress around the clock. Our staff of board-certified pediatric intensivists (a physician specially trained to treat seriously ill children) and highly trained nurses ensures that each child's family is involved in making their child's health care decisions. Family involvement is crucial to place both the child and the family at ease during their stay at NYPBMH.

The unit is intentionally designed to be child-friendly. The unit is decorated in bright, cheerful colors and cartoon posters, similar to the child's room at home. We do our best to make the children and their families feel at home while visiting NYPBMH. We encourage parents and grandparents to visit their child any time and provide accommodations spend the night. In addition sibling visits can be arranged with prior notification and physician/nursing approval.

We care for patients with many diagnoses including:

  • Severe asthma, other breathing problems
  • Severe infections
  • Shock States
  • Complications of congenital heart disease, other heart conditions
  • Bleeding disorders, sickle cell disease
  • Post surgical conditions
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Severe seizures, neurological problems
