NewYork-Presbyterian is resolved to put patients first in everything we do and we recognize the intrinsic relationship between sustainable practices and ecological health. By adopting environmentally responsible practices in the hospital and the community, it is our goal to create a healthier environment for our patients, their families, and our staff, and improve health outcomes for the communities we serve.
To achieve this vision, NewYork-Presbyterian's Senior Executive Sustainability Committee (SESC) developed and approved an environmental mission statement to establish a foundation for its sustainability program, NYPgreen, and to formalize an organizational commitment to these core values:
The Senior Executive Sustainability Committee is responsible for the strategic oversight of NYPgreen. Its membership includes senior leaders from Administration, Operations, Nursing, Perioperative Services, Support Services, Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, Government and Community Affairs.
NYPgreen program development is driven by the Sustainability Council, a multi-disciplinary team with representation from all five campuses.
The Sustainability Council sets goals across key areas where there is great opportunity to reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimize the organization's overall environmental footprint. Representatives from the following areas participate, and have driven the efforts that you can learn more about in the "Initiatives" section of this site:
